*Memory Walk*

My family has been blessed. We have a history of cancer and heart disease, but no one in my family has died of Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer’s is a really tragic neurodegenerative disease that usually strikes people over age 65. Generally it is marked by progressive cognitive deterioration as well as neuropsychiatric symptoms and behavior changes. In the “olden” days, doctors just called it dementia, but it’s much worse than that. I cannot imagine the heartbreak that the families of Alzheimer’s patients must go through every day. There is no known cause or cure for Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer’s Association was created to research Alzheimer’s and to hopefully find the cause and cure. Every year, they hold a Memory Walk, a 2-3 mile walk that raises money in the fight against Alzheimer’s. The Memory Walk occurs every year in over 600 different communities. You can become a “team captain” and promote the Memory Walk. It’s not hard work, and you’ll make a big difference in the lives of Alzheimer’s patients around the world.

You can also mobilize your office in the fight against Alzheimer’s. You may be sacrificing one day in your lifetime, but imagine the difference that you could make in someone else’s life. Don’t be overwhelmed – take the first step now!
