*curtains*
In my old apartment, one of the first things that I had to get was curtains for all the windows. It’s amazing, how many little things you need to take care of whenever you buy or rent a new place. If you enjoy sewing or crafting, you can also make your own curtains. You can find lots of heavy-duty curtain fabric online, or you can buy ready-made curtains for lots of different sizes of windows online.

Isn't it amazing what a difference they can make?
In my old apartment, half the reason I had curtains was to block out the heat. The apartment was actually 1/4 of a house that was well over 100 years old, so it was built so that the sun could heat it and the wind could cool it. So, again, I put thick curtains on the windows, and it made a HUGE difference in the temperature.
