daylight savings time
This was officially the weekend when we turned back our clocks. Spring forward, fall back. This year’s time change was a week later than usual. Congress has authorized the change in an effort to save oil.
Interestingly enough, researchers have also calculated that pedestrians walking around at dusk are now nearly three times more likely to be struck and killed by cars than before the time change. It’s not the darkness itself, but the adjustment to an earlier nighttime that is the killer, according to professors from Carnegie Mellon University. So, if you do go out on foot, take a flashlight with you. The risk usually drops off by mid to late December.
