big news for the independence and kansas city school districts

Yesterday we had a special election here in Independence and Kansas City to determine the future of seven schools in western Independence. Though those schools are within the Independence city limits, they are a part of the Kansas City school district. Needless to say, the Kansas City school district has not done a good job of educating its students. For the past twenty years or so, it has failed. There are no other words for it.

The parents in western Independence started a campaign to move their schools into the Independence School District. Statistically, the Independence School District is one of the best districts in the state. Admitedly, I am a bit biased - I am a graduate of Truman High School and was educated from grades 1 through 12 in the Independence School District. Independence will turn the schools in western Independence around and will give those students a chance to succeed. I have faith that this district is coming in at just the right time to save endless students and to give them a future.
