My nightly perusal of the blogs I read regularly led me to stumble upon this game, a shocking and saddening Sim game which seems to thumb its nose at the blood of Jesus Christ.
I didn't go look at the game you referenced because I have no interest in poor taste. Working for 18 years in the field of mental health has made me sort of immune to shock at what people are capable of, but that being said, people have a right to freedom of speech, even if it offends others. On a brighter note, the rose cursor thing you have on your blog is unbelieveably cool!
You know that in a sense can describe a lot of churches... they pick and choose what "THEY want." and decide what they "DONT want" depending on what they "THINK" and how "OTHERS FEEL" Its pretty sad but so true.
We have been thinking lately about the church covenant. Why do we have one... What is the point of one? To dictate people and conform them to a certain "person?" Isnt that Christs job? To conform us into his likeness?
Our church has this rule that you "cant drink." Why not? I dont understand that one bit. I am not for drinking to get drunk... or to party ...etc..etc... but I do not see any harm in having a glass of wine at a special event... or sipping on a wine cooler when visiting my dad.
But I dont do these things because its on some big plaque on our church wall. And when we joined the church we were saying "we wont do these things." because "they dont want us to."
The more I think about it... the more silly it sounds...
Does this make sense? lol Maybe I am just wanting to rebel HAHA!
well im off to nap. I only got like 5 1\2 hours of sleep last night... im so tired.
Phil~ I agree wholeheartedly that people have a right to free speech. I'm just sad that this is the way that some people are choosing to exercise that right. Thanks for your kind words about my cursor!
Michael~ I'm glad you find it amusing. I suppose it is funny on some level, but I cannot find it funny. Every good joke has some level of truth to it - and that makes this game unbelievably sad.
Drea~ So true. Lots of churches have rules that may or may not be grounded in the Bible. I won't complain if a church has a rule that says you cannot murder - that is written clearly in the Bible. But there are a lot of areas in which we can become Pharisaical. My pastor has been talking about that - how churches can become so hung up on tradition that they forget about doing things the Bible's way. i.e. "We've always done it this way - we can't change now!" He told us about one pastor he talked with around the time we started the church who asked if we would have Sunday evening and Wednesday evening services. My pastor said, "No, not to begin with". And this person literally said to him, "Well you can't do that. You're forsaking of the brothers gathering together." But nowhere in the Bible does it say that we have to meet on Wednesday or Sunday evening - in fact, the closest references are in Acts, where the early church meets daily to worship and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Okay, I'll get off my soap box now. But it really makes me sad to see people poking fun at the church like this, and it really makes me sad to know how right they are. Not that I'm surprised - the Bible says we will be hated. Just sadddened.
Dan, I almost posted your comment until I got to the curse words. If you would post comments on my site that are respectful and appropriate, they will be published. (see notes in the right column)
I don't like mega churches either. I'm really bothered by the giant churches popping up nowadays. Doesn't seem very relational to me.
