repainting

Lately I've been toying with the idea of repainting my bedroom, except this time painting some kind of mural. I probably won't, just because it would be a HUGE project, but it would be a lot of fun to paint colorful stuff on my wall... maybe a landscape? Or something geekish, like a scene from Super Mario Brothers. Or- it would be AWESOME to paint a scene from the Smurfs village! Of course, I would have to replace all the hardware around the room, like the metal switch plates, the curtain rod, maybe even the border around the floor, but it would be super cool!

weddings and milestones

Lately it seems like I have many friends who are celebrating major milestones in their lives. It’s a good thing, and I’m certainly not complaining, but it’s pretty amusing how I’m getting so many wedding invitations and such lately. There are even a couple of weddings for which I have not yet received an invitation, but which I suspect will have an invitation coming any day now. Just a hunch, you know! Or, in a few cases, the wedding is so far off that I’m not surprised I haven’t received an invitation yet. It is kinda neat to receive an invitation- there’s something almost magical about getting letters in the mail. Nowadays, lots of invitations are really well designed, especially wedding invitations. Although just about any invitation is pretty high quality. One other thing I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older- it’s not necessarily offensive to not receive a wedding/birthday/graduation invitation! Of course an invitation brings with it the assumption that you will provide a gift, and gifts cost money, so sometimes it’s almost nice to NOT receive an invitation! Plus sometimes the gifts can be downright expensive. Like sometimes, when you’re dealing with a wedding registry or baby shower registry, some people will only put the expensive things on the registry. My savings account certainly doesn’t like that! It’s pretty neat to have so many friends, I think. So much has changed in my life in the past couple of years, and it’s a lot of fun to just be a part of the lives of so many friends. Today we celebrate their wedding, and I am sure that it won’t be long before we’re celebrating babies and new houses and all kinds of wonderful things like that. Change is scary sometimes, but it can also be an awful lot of fun.

perfume

When I was a teenager, from time to time I would use a spritz of womens perfume, but since then I really have not done that at all. Maybe I’m just a bit of an oddball, but I don’t enjoy fancy scents that much. Since I am blessed to be able to shower regularly, I really don’t think my smell is all that objectionable. And besides, perfume smells so often cause allergic reactions or headaches. Why bother?

coffins and drums

Did you know that there is actually a drum case shaped like a coffin? I guess it’s not a total surprise, since a coffin is basically just a box, but it’s still kind of a wild association. I wonder if drummers get strange looks when they walk through, say, an airport or a restaurant carrying their Coffin Case Drums. Do people ask them if they are carrying a body? I would imagine it happens occasionally!

wedding crash diets

Today I saw an article about brides who are so desperate to lose weight for their weddings that they refuse even the best diet pills and go on a feeding tube diet. For several days- even a couple of weeks or more- they will take in all their nourishment through a feeding tube, as little as 800 calories, all carbs and no protein. Oh wow. It is just hard for me to even imagine being so desperate to lose weight that a person would CHOOSE to go on a feeding tube. It cannot possibly be worth that!
