hot hot summer

The weather has been SO WEIRD this year... I feel kinda bad for people who enjoy grilling around firepits (like the ones sold by http://www.firepits.com/) because this spring and summer has been so off. Winter was very spring-y, spring was more like a mild summer, and now summer is proving to be hot and humid, generally unpleasant weather to be outside! To make things worse, the mosquitoes are bad this year, and the sun is quite harsh. Boo!

netbook vs ipad

I am now the proud owner of an iPad. I seriously considered buying refurbished netbooks, because I really do love having a legitimate keyboard. But ultimately the size and weight of the iPad won out... it is very small, very lightweight, and VERY portable. Since I will be traveling (a LOT) this summer, portability is very important to me. Not to mention, I want to be able to use it in my day-to-day life when I'm away from home!

patio repairs

My dad wants to buy some kind of cement-caulking and rent a machine with concrete blades so that he can repair our basement patio, which has started pulling away from the house. It's not a critical repair but now that he's retired, he has more time to do these things. Of course, this past winter was not bad at all, but if we have another bad winter with lots of snow and ice, I suppose that could potentially due some real damage to the patio. Lucky we have a few months to make the repairs!
